Responsible ICT

Book chapter

19. Concluding remarks and a call for action

Abstract

The book covers a wide but necessary range of themes and builds upon scientific knowledge from several disciplines. This is due to the complexity of the challenges that responsible ICT aims at. However, a responsible information and computing scientist or industry practitioner needs to embrace a lifelong learning process that keeps them update with the theories and skills necessary to tackle new goals and projects. They will often collaborate with experts from other scientific disciplines and industry sectors. In this chapter, emphasize the need for responsible ICT and related professions. We also discuss the tensions between activism and career development, both in academia and industry. The book ends with a call for action, where we need to unite forces and minds in order to address the outstanding social and environmental challenges.
